Oceanside Pano shots

Here are a few Pano shots stitched together using autostich. The first photo is on the Malahat summit. To the left of the photo isVictoria International airport (where I did my flying training). To the right is Brentwood Bay (you can take a ferry from Brentwood Bay to Mill Bay. I wish I took that Ferry rather than driving the Malahat... Island traffic is getting TERRIBLE.

The rest of the photos are along the scenic route around Victoria. Take Dallas Road and Beach Drive and you will see some amazing views.

Victoria Legislature grounds

Outside, Queen Victoria stands watch...
The legislature grounds are very old... Built before the turn of the 20th century.

A look from inside looking out

Market Square Victoria

BC was my home for years, so when I went on vacation I went photo mad and felt a bit nostalgic.

Anyway, a few photos of Market Square in Victoria. Market Square is one of the oldest buildings in British Columbia (built in the late 1800s) and has a variety of shops and has live performances in the theatre.

The old staircase:

Looking up once inside:

The courtyard. The shops all in the brick buildings that make the square. A stage is to the right of the photo.

From the first floor:

A pano of market square. The stage is underneath the awning to the right:

EMRA Round 5

Was at Stratotech for round 5 of the season. Took 3800 photos and should have them up before Friday. There was some good racing but it was marred by some pretty nasty crashes. Hopefully everyone is alright. Here is a sequence of a startline incident I caught for the Novice Race 2. They aren't the best photos as I wasn't sure who to aim at for the start, so I just did a generic grid shot and kept clicking... these are cropped a fair bit but you get the idea of what happened.

Neutral Density Filters

I bought a few Neutral Density filters early this year but never had a good opportunity to use them until recently. Below is a picture of my kit:

Neutral Density filters reduce the amount of light passing through your lens. From left to right are an ND2, ND4, and ND8 filter. They allow for a 1,2, and 3 f -stop reduction respectively. Very handy for reducing the shutter speed and or allowing a wider aperature.

I used them on vacation to take pictures of a waterfalls, as shown in the following photos. They were done at about 1/3 to 1/2 second and used a ND8 filter. They aren't perfect, but it shows how slow you can make the exposure and still be able to make a decent exposure:

For more information on ND filters, here are a few sources:
The Filters I bought are a Hoya set and I got them on ebay from this seller:
Also bought a circular polarizer, but haven't used it yet...
